How It Works
A micro-hydro system generates electricity by directing stream water through a screened intake and into a penstock (pressurized pipe). As water flows downhill, gravity creates pressure that spins a turbine connected to a generator inside a small powerhouse. The electricity produced is then distributed through local power lines to homes and community facilities. The water is safely returned to the river downstream, continuing its natural course.
